Abu Dhabi has secured a place among the world’s top 50 emerging startup ecosystems after recording a dramatic 3,057% surge in ecosystem value, reaching $73.4 billion, according to the 2026 Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER) released by Startup Genome and the Global Entrepreneurship Network. The findings were unveiled at VivaTech Paris.
The emirate now ranks in the #41–50 global band, improving from the previous #51–60 range and marking one of its strongest year-on-year gains in the GSER rankings. The report analyzes data from more than 5.5 million companies across over 350 innovation ecosystems worldwide.
Between July 2023 and December 2025, Abu Dhabi generated $73.4 billion in ecosystem value—a metric that captures combined startup valuations and exit activity. This represents extraordinary growth compared to the 2018–2020 baseline, reflecting accelerated investment, stronger startup formation, and a deepening talent pool.
Abu Dhabi also posted strong regional rankings across MENA categories, underscoring its rising influence in multiple high-growth sectors. Key highlights include:
- #2 in MENA for AI-native ecosystem activity
- #4 in MENA for R&D engine strength
- #4 in MENA for overall performance
- #5 in MENA for funding momentum
- #5 in MENA for talent strength
- Top 15 in funding runway and affordable talent metrics
A major driver of this momentum has been the expansion of AI, FinTech, ClimateTech, Web3, and digital assets, supported by coordinated policy frameworks and infrastructure investment. The report points to Abu Dhabi’s increasingly mature innovation landscape, shaped by both public-sector strategy and private-sector participation.
The ecosystem’s growth has been reinforced by initiatives led by Hub71, which continues to act as a central platform connecting founders with investors, corporates, regulators, and international markets.
Ahmad Ali Alwan, CEO of Hub71, said the performance reflects a maturing ecosystem built on capital access, regulatory support, and global connectivity, enabling startups to scale beyond regional markets.
Startup Genome’s Managing Director for MENA, Samantha Evans, described Abu Dhabi’s rapid rise as one of the region’s most notable ecosystem advances, highlighting its progress across AI, FinTech, ClimateTech, and Web3-driven innovation.
Structural developments have further strengthened the ecosystem, including frameworks developed by the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) for virtual assets, Abu Dhabi’s national AI infrastructure push, and large-scale technology partnerships involving G42, the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), and NVIDIA, which has supported the establishment of advanced AI research initiatives in the region.
With sustained funding, expanding talent pipelines, and growing global integration, Abu Dhabi continues to position itself as one of the fastest-rising innovation hubs worldwide—signaling a long-term shift in the global startup landscape.
