Abu Dhabi, UAE – June 2025 — Abu Dhabi University (ADU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT), reinforcing its role in the UAE’s national industrial strategy through academic-industry collaboration and research-driven innovation.
The agreement, signed during the fourth edition of the Make it in the Emirates forum, sets the stage for joint initiatives that aim to bridge academia and industry, support national capacity building, and align scientific research with market needs. The partnership also includes tailored training programs for students and startups to strengthen the National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology and the Make it in the Emirates initiative.
The MoU was formalized by H.E. Osama Amir Fadhel, Assistant Undersecretary for the Industrial Accelerators Sector at MoIAT, and Dr. Hamad Odhabi, Vice Chancellor of AI and Operational Excellence at ADU.
“Through strategic partnerships, we continue to enhance the growth and competitiveness of the UAE’s industrial sector,” said H.E. Fadhel. “Academic institutions like ADU are crucial to nurturing national talent and developing research that responds directly to industry needs. This collaboration helps build a resilient, knowledge-based economy.”
ADU’s Chancellor, Professor Ghassan Aouad, echoed this sentiment, stating: “This partnership highlights our commitment to equipping students with the tools and mindset needed to drive sustainable economic growth. By aligning with national priorities, we are positioning academia as a vital contributor to the UAE’s global competitiveness.”
As part of its participation in Make it in the Emirates, ADU students showcased a series of pioneering projects emphasizing applied research and innovation. Among the highlights:
- PipeGuard Falcon – an AI-powered robotic system for pipeline inspection and predictive maintenance
- 3D-Printed Concrete Solutions – using locally sourced materials to support sustainable construction
- AiMM – a smart medication management platform to enhance healthcare efficiency and safety
- Autonomous Marine Debris Collector – promoting environmental sustainability
- Drone Detection & Tracking System – for advanced security applications
- AgriTech Precision Dispersal Device – supporting next-gen farming
- Custom Circuit Boards – driving progress in automation and electronics
The MoU paves the way for a broader impact through knowledge exchange in advanced technologies, cross-sector collaboration, and student engagement in real-world industrial challenges.
