ADNOC Partners with Tubacex to Advance Tubular Technology Manufacturing in UAE

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates In an effort to strengthen the nation’s industrial resilience and energy capabilities, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has signed a historic contract with the Spanish company Tubacex SA to localize the production of vital oilfield tubular technologies in the United Arab Emirates.

The agreement, which was recently announced in a press release, gives ADNOC the sole and perpetual right to use Tubacex’s Sentinel Prime, a cutting-edge tubular joint connection technology that is essential to the completion of oil and gas wells. The high temperatures and pressures present in deep-well settings are intended to be tolerated by this high-performance technology.

As part of the strategic collaboration, Tubacex will establish a dedicated research and development (R&D) center in Abu Dhabi. The facility will serve as a hub for advanced engineering, support knowledge transfer, and train a new generation of local technicians. The initiative aligns with the UAE’s “Make it in the Emirates” campaign, which aims to boost domestic manufacturing and technological innovation.

“This strategic partnership secures ADNOC’s access to key well-completion technology, reinforcing our position as a reliable global energy supplier,” said Musabbeh Al Kaabi, CEO of ADNOC Upstream. “We welcome Tubacex’s investment in Abu Dhabi, which will help develop local talent and enhance the UAE’s industrial capabilities.”

Tubulars—also known as Oil Country Tubular Goods—are essential steel components used during drilling and well-completion operations in the oil and gas sector. These products must meet stringent performance standards to endure the harsh conditions of subsurface environments.

The company’s commitment to innovation and its growing global role were highlighted by Tubacex Group CEO Josu Imaz, who said, “This licensing deal with ADNOC underscores Tubacex’s commitment to advancing energy sector technologies and solidifies our position as a key partner for leading industry players.”

The partnership not only reflects ADNOC’s ongoing efforts to localize advanced energy technologies but also highlights the UAE’s broader ambition to position itself as a hub for high-tech manufacturing and energy innovation.
