In recent years, Dubai has made headlines for its strides in digital advancements. Earlier this year, the Dubai government announced its plans to position Dubai as one of the largest metaverse economies. Months after, the government launched a programme to boost robotics and economy-wide automation in the Emirate. Unsurprisingly, Dubai is globally recognized as a hub for innovation and technological development. Next month, Dubai will host one of the world’s most significant tech events, GITEX 2022.
What is GITEX?
GITEX is a global technology event that enables companies to showcase their innovative products to potential users and investors. The event also spurs much-needed conversations on essential issues in the global tech industry. This year’s edition is set to feature discussions on topics like 5G integration, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and sustainability. Every year since its inception, GITEX has provided a platform for large and small businesses to exhibit their product offerings to a global audience. For instance, Microsoft officially launched Windows 7 in the 2009 edition of GITEX.
Every year, GITEX hosts a vast audience spanning thousands of people. However, this year’s edition is set to feature record-breaking participation. Based on estimations, the GITEX 2022 will feature exhibitions from over 4,500 companies with an audience strength of over 100,000. This year’s event will involve specialised conferences and 15 technical workshops. Companies like Trellix, Nokia, and AWS are set to make their GITEX debut this year.
GITEX 2022 will equally feature two new programs. The first program, Global DevSlam, is a global event for tech developers to meet up and share ideas on skill enhancement and talent acquisition. The second program, the X-Verse, seeks to provide attendees with an immersive experience of the intricacies of the Metaverse and Web 3.0. This year’s edition will hold from October 10th to October 15th at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Dubai’s Preparation for GITEX 2022
Dubai has hosted GITEX since the event’s inception in 1981. On all occasions, the Emirate has provided a conducive environment for GITEX to receive its visitors and conduct its activities. The government of UAE has lent its support in anticipation of this year’s edition of GITEX. For instance, UAE’s Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence has been confirmed as a speaker at GITEX 2022. The Abu Dhabi Digital Authority (ADDA) and the UAE Cyber Security Council have also launched a cybersecurity competition at GITEX 2022. In preparation for GITEX, the ADDA has conducted preliminary rounds of the competition. The top five teams are expected to compete for the grand prize at GITEX 2022.
This year’s edition of GITEX is expected to host the event’s largest audience. Thus, preparations are undergoing for the Dubai World Trade Centre to receive the event’s over 100,000 attendees. One such preparation is the installation of three additional halls for this year’s audience count. Thus, Dubai will provide GITEX 2022 with a venue spanning 26 halls and over two million square feet.
