Egypt Joins UAE

Abu Dhabi, UAE – The Industrial Transition Accelerator (ITA) has announced a landmark partnership with Egypt’s Industrial Modernization Center (IMC), under the Ministry of Industry, to fast-track decarbonization and drive clean industrial growth across the MENA region.

The agreement, formalized during a high-level signing ceremony in Abu Dhabi, was witnessed by H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ITA Co-Chair, H.E. Lt. Gen. Eng. Kamel Al-Wazir, Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, and H.E. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade. Representing the two entities, the MoU was signed by H.E. Omar Suwaina Al Suwaidi, UAE Ministry Undersecretary, and Duaa Salima, Executive Director of IMC.

With the words, “The MENA region is poised to become a global hub for sustainable industry,” H.E. Al Suwaidi emphasized the strategic significance of this partnership.  This collaboration with Egypt ushers in a new age of industrial sustainability advancement, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies to satisfy climate targets and boost competitiveness.”

He emphasized that the ITA is a “strategic necessity” to align industrial growth with global sustainability trends, by promoting environmentally friendly technologies that improve productivity and reduce emissions.

Egypt now becomes the third country to join the ITA’s growing MENA Programme, following the UAE and Bahrain. The initiative aims to coordinate industry, finance, and government leadership to decarbonize high-emission sectors such as cement, aluminium, steel, chemicals, aviation, and shipping.

“With its strategic location, strong trade ties to the EU, and expanding renewable energy capacity, Egypt is well-positioned to lead in low-carbon industrial supply chains,” said Faustine Delasalle, Executive Director of the ITA, highlighting Egypt’s potential.”

Duaa Salima, representing Egypt’s IMC, welcomed the MoU, which is set to accelerate investment-ready decarbonization projects in Egypt’s heavy industry and transport sectors. “This partnership supports Egypt’s industrial strategy to increase its GDP contribution from 14% to 20% by 2030, while boosting the green economy’s share to 5%,” she said.

The MoU also includes provisions for technical cooperation, skill development, and policy alignment to enable the success of clean industrial initiatives. According to Salima, the collaboration reflects the critical role of government leadership in unlocking green investment and aligning with national climate targets.

In coordination with the UAE’s Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, the ITA will identify priority projects and support final investment decisions to ensure implementation by 2030. This aligns with the broader objectives of the Paris Agreement and global climate commitments.

Building on its success in Brazil, UAE, and Bahrain, the ITA’s support programmes have already assembled a pipeline of over 45 projects across participating nations, with potential investments exceeding $100 billion. The partnership with Egypt further strengthens the region’s collective push toward a decarbonized industrial future.
