GigaFarm Celebrates a Milestone with a Groundbreaking Ceremony

Prominent UAE and UK authorities, along with Dr. Amna bint Abdulla Aldahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, attended a ceremony to commemorate the groundbreaking of the ground-breaking GigaFarm project at Dubai Food Tech Valley. The goal of this historic project, spearheaded by Wasl and backed by international collaborations, is to create a farming ecosystem that is decarbonized.

Promoting the UAE’s Sustainable Food Security Vision

Dr. Amna emphasized the UAE’s unique approaches to ensuring food security. According to her, the GigaFarm project and the Food Tech Valley initiative are prime examples of the country’s commitment to creating sustainable agricultural systems and tackling global issues like the scarcity of arable land and water.

Presenting the Groundbreaking GigaFarm Initiative

The GigaFarm, which was built on a 900,000 square foot plot, maximizes resource efficiency by integrating six complementing technologies in a closed-loop system. In order to drastically cut carbon emissions, this project will use regenerative farming and AI-driven vertical farming to generate more than three million kilograms of fresh produce yearly by 2025.

Leading the Way in the Production of Decarbonized Food

The goal of the GigaFarm project is to offset 1% of the UAE’s imports of fresh produce and divert 50,000 tonnes of food waste from landfills each year. Dubai Food Tech Valley is positioned as a global leader in sustainable agriculture thanks to this innovative project.

Collaboration Between Innovators in the UAE and the UK

Jonathan Reynolds, the British Secretary of State for Business and Trade, commended the UAE-UK partnership and emphasized the significance of tackling food security and climate change together. The two countries’ cooperation in promoting sustainable food production is demonstrated by the incorporation of British vertical farming technology.

Changing the Agricultural Scene Worldwide

The CEO of Intelligent Growth Solutions (IGS), Andrew Lloyd, emphasized the GigaFarm’s worldwide importance. In order to improve regenerative food security, he called the idea a “global first,” fusing vertical farming with a ground-breaking circular system.

A Move in the Direction of a Resilient Food Ecosystem

Wasl Group CEO Hesham Abdulla Al Qassim gave some thought to the advancements at Food Tech Valley. He highlighted the project’s revolutionary potential to decarbonize food production, create a resilient food ecosystem, and serve as a template for international food security programs.

COP28’s Legacy: Promoting Innovation and Transformation

The GigaFarm has diverted substantial food waste, supplied produce to important markets, and highlighted more than 60 crop varieties since its launch during COP28. These accomplishments demonstrate the UAE and UK governments’ proactive assistance and commitment to promoting agricultural innovation.

Dubai’s Prospects for Food Security

Dubai Food Tech Valley is positioned to become a hub of sustainability and innovation with the GigaFarm concept, establishing new standards for environmentally friendly, technologically advanced food production. This project strengthens Dubai’s standing as a world leader in using innovative approaches to address issues related to food security.
