Dubai, UAE — Global payments leader Mastercard has announced a strategic collaboration with Qlub, a Dubai-based fintech specializing in hospitality payments, to accelerate the adoption of digital and contactless dining solutions across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The partnership not only brings Mastercard’s advanced payment platforms to Qlub but also includes a minority investment in the fast-growing startup.
A Push for Seamless Dining Payments
As part of the agreement, Mastercard will process Qlub’s card-not-present transactions through its Mastercard Gateway, covering key markets such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain. By integrating Qlub’s QR-based dining technology with Mastercard’s global payments infrastructure, the two companies aim to make restaurant payments faster, more secure, and more convenient for both diners and operators.
The collaboration reflects a broader regional push toward cashless payments, aligning with consumer expectations for seamless, tech-driven dining experiences.
A Growing Relationship
Qlub’s journey with Mastercard began in 2023, when the fintech joined Start Path, Mastercard’s global startup engagement program designed to scale innovative companies in high-growth industries. The new partnership builds on that foundation, with Mastercard providing operational expertise and global reach to help Qlub scale its offering across the GCC and beyond.
Gina Petersen-Skyrme, Senior Vice President and Country Manager, UAE and Oman at Mastercard, said the deal underscores the company’s commitment to digital transformation in hospitality:
“This collaboration with Qlub represents Mastercard’s commitment to driving digital transformation and empowering businesses in the hospitality industry. By combining Qlub’s cutting-edge QR-based payment technology with Mastercard’s global expertise, we’re delivering simpler, faster, and more secure payment experiences for restaurants and consumers alike. More than an investment, this reflects our ongoing mission to support fintech innovators who redefine the way we live, work, and transact.”
Qlub’s Rapid Rise
Founded in 2021 and headquartered in Dubai, Qlub has quickly emerged as a major player in the hospitality fintech sector. Its QR code-based table payment solution allows guests to pay directly from their smartphones, eliminating the need to wait for bills or payment terminals.
The company currently operates in more than 3,000 restaurants and serves over 3 million users across 10 countries. With nearly 300 employees, Qlub has become a leading example of how fintech innovation can transform dining experiences.
Qlub’s technology not only improves convenience for diners but also helps restaurants streamline operations, reduce wait times, and enhance customer satisfaction.
John Mady, Managing Director of Qlub UAE, highlighted the shared vision behind the partnership:
“Our collaboration with Mastercard is built on a shared vision of innovation and trust in payments. By combining Qlub’s frictionless QR-based dining technology with Mastercard’s global expertise and secure infrastructure, we’re reimagining how guests and restaurants connect. Together, we aim to make every dining experience faster, safer, and more rewarding — not just in the GCC, but wherever great food brings people together.”
Backed by Strong Investors
Qlub has also drawn strong backing from investors. Earlier this year, the company announced the closure of a $30 million funding round, co-led by Shorooq Partners and Cherry Ventures, with participation from strategic players including e&, Mubadala Investments, and Legend Capital.
This fresh funding is expected to support Qlub’s expansion into new global markets and further enhance its smart dining platform.
Transforming the Hospitality Sector
The GCC’s hospitality industry is undergoing rapid digital transformation, with customers increasingly expecting cashless, contactless, and frictionless payment options. Mastercard’s collaboration with Qlub comes at a time when restaurants and hospitality providers are under pressure to modernize payment systems to keep pace with these changing behaviors.
By combining global payments infrastructure with local fintech innovation, the partnership aims to:
Simplify digital dining transactions across the region.
Enhance payment security and reliability.
Support restaurants in adopting more efficient, customer-friendly solutions.
For Mastercard, the deal strengthens its footprint in the region’s hospitality payments sector, while for Qlub, it represents a significant milestone in scaling operations and building consumer trust.
Looking Ahead
As digital payments continue to gain momentum in the GCC, collaborations between global financial giants and regional innovators are expected to play a critical role in shaping the future of commerce.
With Mastercard’s expertise and Qlub’s growing influence, the partnership positions both companies to capitalize on the demand for seamless, secure, and rewarding dining payment solutions.
