Since the plans for Riyadh Metro were drawn up in 2014, it has become one of the most highly anticipated projects in Saudi Arabia. Over the last 25 years, Riyadh expanded quickly, resulting in the creation of a lot of roads and a strong dependence on cars for getting around. In 2018, the city had approximately 8.9 million daily trips but has been facing persistent traffic congestion issues.

The Riyadh Metro, also referred to as the Riyadh electric train, is a component of the King Abdulaziz Public Transport Project that aims to tackle traffic congestion concerns. The project is certainly ambitious, with a total of 85 railway stations and six major metro lines that span the entire capital city from different directions. Also, an extensive bus network will enhance the metro system, resulting in a transportation network covering more than 1800 km.

Exploring the Integrated Network of Riyadh Metro

The metro comprises six lines, with each line serving distinct regions within the city. The Blue Line is a 38-kilometer route that links Olaya and Batha’a. The Red Line runs for 25.3 kilometers along King Abdullah Road. The Orange Line spans 40.7 kilometers and links Al Madina Al Monawara Road to Prince Saad bin Abdul Rahman Al Awal Road. The Yellow Line is a 29.6-kilometer route along King Khaled International Airport Road. The Green Line runs for 12.9 kilometers along King Abdul Aziz Road. The Purple Line is a 30-kilometer-long route that links Abdul Rahman bin Aouf Road with Shiekh Hassan bin Hussain bin Ali Road. The metro will offer efficient and convenient transportation options for both residents and visitors throughout the city because of its extensive network.

The Riyadh Metro hopes to eliminate around 250,000 daily car trips and save 400,000 liters of fuel per day by significantly reducing the number of car trips. The positive impact on carbon emissions will also be significant, leading to Riyadh’s greener and more sustainable future.

In order to ensure ease and accessibility, people can park their cars on-site at the station in any of the available parking slots. The project has a total of 25 parking lots. Each parking lot can accommodate 400-600 cars at a time.

On March 19, they launched the first phase of the Riyadh Bus service in Riyadh. The new service is a component of the King Abdulaziz Public Transport Project, which aims to make transportation more accessible and extensive across the city. The metro is a symbol of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to a contemporary, interconnected, and environmentally friendly future.

The Riyadh Metro demonstrates how technology can revolutionize transportation and transform cities. The metro system in Riyadh is changing the city’s appearance and enhancing the well-being of its inhabitants and tourists through its creative layout, effortless connectivity, and dedication to eco-friendliness.
