e& UAE Transforms Telecom Tower Inspections with AI-Powered Drones

e& UAE Transforms Telecom

16 April 2025, Abu Dhabi —  e& UAE has introduced its most recent innovation, autonomous drone-based telecom tower inspections driven by artificial intelligence (AI), which represents a major advancement for the region’s digital infrastructure.  This innovative project is expected to change the way that telecom infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates is tracked, maintained, and protected.

The state-of-the-art system combines AI, real-time data analytics, and autonomous drone technology to enable quicker, safer, and more ecologically friendly inspections. As a result of the recently established Drones Operations Centre, the effort is a part of a larger strategic partnership with the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the UAE Cyber Security Council. Enhancing unmanned traffic management and incorporating drone operations into the country’s digital fabric are the goals of this collaborative project.

Remote-Controlled Precision and Real-Time Oversight

Operated remotely from the Drones Operations Centre, each drone flight is monitored live by trained specialists who oversee safety protocols, monitor flight paths, and validate the accuracy of inspections. Unlike traditional methods, the drones autonomously navigate complex tower structures, significantly reducing the risks associated with manual inspections.

These drones also provide a critical edge in emergency scenarios, enabling the rapid deployment of aid and restoring connectivity in remote or disaster-affected areas.

AI-Driven Maintenance and Smarter Infrastructure Management

At the core of the innovation is AI technology capable of detecting structural anomalies during inspections. This enables a shift from reactive to proactive maintenance, preventing potential network disruptions while extending the lifespan of telecom assets.

A more secure and robust network is achieved by the system’s provision for remote monitoring of safety compliance and unauthorized activity.  When compared to traditional inspection techniques, drone missions’ insights are incorporated into e& UAE’s digital infrastructure platforms, enabling predictive maintenance, effective asset management, and a lower carbon footprint.

“Our integration of autonomous drones exemplifies how we’re reimagining network operations through innovation,” said Marwan Bin Shakar, Acting Chief Technology & Information Officer at e& UAE. “AI-powered insights and real-time monitoring are transforming inspection efficiency and safety, while supporting the UAE’s vision for sustainable, smart cities.”

A National Commitment to Tech-Driven Progress

This initiative also underscores e& UAE’s role as a key digital enabler, aligning with the nation’s ambitions to lead in smart city development and technology-driven transformation.

Complete adherence to operational, cybersecurity, and air traffic safety regulations is guaranteed by the Drones Operations Center’s deployment, which was constructed in collaboration with national regulatory agencies. By utilizing 5G connectivity to enable more reliable drone communication and control, the center also plays a crucial part in developing national unmanned traffic management systems.

As the UAE accelerates its transition to a future-ready digital economy, e& UAE’s drone-powered inspections exemplify how innovation can deliver tangible benefits across industries, communities, and the environment.
