UAE Central Bank Greenlights Web3 Insurance in Major Boost to Digital Economy

UAE Central Bank

Abu Dhabi- The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates has formally authorized regulatory support for Web3-focused insurance solutions, demonstrating the country’s dedication to digital innovation.  Relm Insurance and Liva Insurance’s joint venture has been approved, indicating increased institutional support for blockchain-based financial services in the United Arab Emirates.

Relm and Liva Unveil SIGMAWEB3 Coverage for Digital Pioneers

To address the demands of rapidly expanding digital enterprises, the two insurers have introduced SIGMAWEB3 and its specialized form, SIGMAWEB3 VARA. SIGMAWEB3 focuses on businesses engaged in fintech, blockchain development, and cryptocurrency exchange operations—segments that have previously been neglected in the insurance market—while traditional insurance carriers have remained wary of risks associated with blockchain and cryptocurrencies.

In February 2025, Liva, a prominent insurance provider based in the GCC, and Relm, which is renowned for its emphasis on new industries, formally announced their alliance. Their collaborative partnership paved the way for customized regulations addressing rapidly changing industries including biotechnology, Web3 businesses, and artificial intelligence. The Central Bank gave its complete clearance after months of examination, ushering in a new era of regulatory cooperation with the tech industry.

VARA-Compliant Coverage Bolsters Dubai’s Digital Asset Framework

SIGMAWEB3 VARA closely follows the guidelines established by the Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority (VARA) of Dubai.  The ability to get insurance coverage that not only satisfy but are customized to local regulatory requirements has been extended to digital asset enterprises under VARA’s supervision, further legitimizing and stabilizing operations in the blockchain and cryptocurrency industries.

This development reflects the UAE’s larger ambition to become a global hub for digital finance. It also reinforces investor confidence by mitigating key operational risks through comprehensive coverage spanning financial, cyber, professional liability, and crime-related exposures.

Web3 Integration Aligned with UAE’s Financial Sector Vision

The Central Bank’s endorsement of Web3 insurance is more than just a policy change—it’s a strategic step toward building a digital-first economic ecosystem. As part of its broader transformation agenda, the Bank is also preparing to launch its Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), the Digital Dirham, by the end of 2025.

By backing initiatives like SIGMAWEB3, regulators are sending a clear message: the UAE is ready to foster a secure, transparent, and innovation-friendly environment for digital enterprises and investors alike.

A Synergy of Innovation and Oversight

The partnership between Relm and Liva, which has been strengthened by regulatory permission, is a perfect example of how innovation and supervision can work together to propel economic development. The UAE is at the vanguard of the global acceleration of Web3 technology adoption, combining progressive regulation with calculated investments in next-generation financial infrastructure.

Now that strong foundations are in place, the Emirates is continuing to forge ahead as a top location for Web3, fintech, and digital asset enterprises looking for stability and opportunity.
