Berlin, June 18, 2025 – The United Arab Emirates has deepened its strategic partnership with Germany following a high-level delegation visit focused on advancing cooperation in science, innovation, and cutting-edge technologies.
Delegation Led by UAE’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Advanced Science and Technology
The visit was led by His Excellency Omran Sharaf, Assistant Foreign Minister for Advanced Science and Technology, who spearheaded discussions aimed at expanding bilateral ties in critical and emerging technology sectors. The delegation engaged in a series of meetings with top German officials and industry leaders across multiple cities.
The mission began in Berlin with the UAE’s active participation in GITEX Europe, a major global tech showcase. The delegation also attended high-level discussions with key German government figures, signaling both nations’ commitment to collaboration in the fields of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, research, and space technologies.
High-Level Meetings to Advance Bilateral Cooperation
In Berlin, H.E. Sharaf held bilateral talks with:
- E. Dr. Karsten Wildberger, Federal Minister for Digital Affairs and State Modernization
- Silke Launert, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Research, Technology, and Space
- Gitta Connemann, State Secretary and Government Commissioner for SMEs at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy
These discussions focused on policy alignment, innovation funding, and joint research initiatives, underscoring the shared vision of both countries in advancing technology-driven development.
Engagements with Business and Technology Leaders
The UAE delegation participated in a roundtable hosted by NUMOV, one of Germany’s largest organizations promoting economic cooperation with the MENA region. The event provided a platform for exchanging ideas on cross-border tech collaboration, investment opportunities, and innovation ecosystems.
Additionally, the delegation visited the Merantix AI Campus, Germany’s premier innovation hub for artificial intelligence, where discussions centered around AI regulation, talent exchange, and startup support.
At the Ghorfa Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the UAE representatives explored further private-sector partnerships, particularly in the fields of sustainable technologies and industrial innovation.
Spotlight on Emerging Tech at TECH25 Conference
In Heilbronn, H.E. Sharaf participated in the TECH25 Conference, a key event bringing together global leaders in emerging technologies. During the conference, Sharaf was interviewed by Handelsblatt, a leading German business publication, and engaged in dialogues with innovators on the future of smart technologies, digital infrastructure, and secure tech ecosystems.
The visit concluded with bilateral meetings in Stuttgart, where the UAE delegation engaged with public and private sector leaders, including H.E. Danyal Bayaz, Minister of Finance, and Christoph Werner, CEO of dm-drogerie markt, one of Germany’s largest retail chains.
Commitment to Global Innovation and Technology Security
Throughout the visit, the UAE delegation emphasized the value of international partnerships in accelerating innovation and ensuring global progress in scientific research, security, and technology development. The meetings highlighted the UAE’s growing role as a global tech partner and its ambition to be at the forefront of next-generation technology solutions.
