Abu Dhabi, UAE – In a strategic push to advance sustainable innovation, the UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators (UICCA), in partnership with the UAE Ministry of Economy, unveiled 10 pioneering climate tech start-ups at the latest Launchpad Circular Economy Cycle showcase. The event highlighted cutting-edge solutions aimed at transforming waste into value across vital sectors such as food, energy, water, textiles, and infrastructure.
Accelerating the Circular Economy Vision
The UICCA Launchpad is a flagship accelerator program designed to scale the impact of climate technology start-ups through a robust support ecosystem. Offering funding access, mentorship, market linkages, and policy guidance, each cycle of the Launchpad tackles a key area of climate action. This cycle focused on the circular economy—an approach that seeks to eliminate waste and regenerate natural systems by rethinking how resources are used and reused.
More than 150 global applicants vied for a spot in the program. Ultimately, ten finalists were selected based on the potential of their solutions to drive measurable climate impact. Their innovations span decentralized composting, food waste recovery, circular desalination, textile upcycling, critical minerals recovery, and industrial reuse.
Sheikha Shamma: Circularity as a Systemic Rethink
Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President and CEO of UICCA, emphasized the transformative power of circular innovation during her remarks at the showcase.
“True circularity challenges us to fundamentally rethink how our economy is designed—not just to reduce waste, but to regenerate systems and create lasting value,” she said. “Through the UICCA Launchpad, we are backing the innovators who are turning this vision into reality. Their work is not only transforming industries but laying the groundwork for a future where sustainability and growth go hand in hand.”
She also praised the collaboration with the Ministry of Economy, which she noted amplifies the impact of the program and provides a critical enabling environment for start-ups to thrive in the UAE.
Government Backing for Scalable Sustainability
Her Excellency Maria Hanif Alqassim, Assistant Undersecretary for Policies and Economic Studies Sector at the Ministry of Economy, underscored the government’s commitment to fostering sustainable economic transformation.
“This initiative reflects the values we champion: cross-sector collaboration, support for scalable innovation, and the advancement of sustainable economic models,” said Alqassim. “By uniting entrepreneurs, investors, regulators, and industry leaders, the programme aims to reshape our economic systems to be restorative by design.”
She reaffirmed the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to working alongside UICCA and private sector stakeholders to ensure the longevity and scalability of these pioneering solutions.
Finalists Paving the Way for a Circular Future
The ten finalists—Altera, Cauli, Circa Biotech, Desolenator, Excess Material Exchange, Food with Benefits, Novasensa, Terrax, The Waste Lab, and Yellow Octopus: Circular Solutions—presented their innovations live before an audience of investors, regulators, and sustainability leaders. The event served as the culmination of an intensive three-month accelerator that equipped each start-up with expert mentorship, technical training, and direct engagement with policymakers and industry partners.
Looking Ahead: Carbon Solutions and Climate Adaptation
The Circular Economy Cycle is just one component of UICCA’s broader ambition to position the UAE as a global leader in climate innovation. Future Launchpad cycles will focus on carbon reduction technologies and climate adaptation strategies, continuing to support start-ups that address some of the most pressing challenges of the climate crisis.
By championing early-stage climate innovators and providing the infrastructure they need to succeed, the UICCA and Ministry of Economy are reinforcing the UAE’s long-term commitment to sustainability, innovation, and economic resilience in a rapidly changing world.
