In a significant step toward regional scientific collaboration, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in civil space activities for peaceful purposes. The agreement, signed by the UAE Space Agency and the Egyptian Space Agency, aims to deepen bilateral ties in space technology, research, and innovation.
Salem Butti Al Qubaisi, Director-General of the UAE Space Agency, hailed the agreement as a “key milestone” in Arab space collaboration, emphasizing its alignment with the UAE’s strategic vision. “Space is a promising frontier that supports sustainable development, fosters knowledge exchange, and drives innovative solutions to global challenges,” he said.
Al Qubaisi highlighted that the partnership underlines the UAE’s commitment to investing in human capital, localizing technological expertise, and building a robust knowledge-based economy rooted in innovation and leadership. “Our collaboration with Egypt reflects our shared aspiration for a more prosperous and resilient future,” he added.
The agreement outlines a long-term framework for cooperation across various domains, including Earth observation, communication technologies, navigation and timing systems, and space situational awareness. It also paves the way for joint research initiatives and the development of advanced space applications, furthering the scientific ambitions of both nations.
The two agencies hope to support scientific research, develop space-based technologies to benefit their respective communities, and develop national talent through the sharing of knowledge and collaborative projects. The collaboration supports the UAE’s overarching objective of becoming a reliable regional and international player in the space industry.
The partnership supports common interests in space exploration and scientific growth and demonstrates the UAE’s continuous efforts to deepen its strategic ties within the Arab world. Both nations hope to use research and innovation to further sustainable development and long-term resilience by cultivating regional relationships.
