Abu Dhabi: The UAE Space Agency has launched a new digital services platform designed to simplify space licensing procedures and enhance the nation’s transition toward a fully digital government. The launch comes just ahead of the agency’s participation at GITEX Global 2025, the world’s largest technology and entrepreneurship event, which runs from October 13 to 17 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
The platform represents a landmark step in the UAE’s smart governance agenda, creating a single, unified digital gateway for all space-related services. Investors, entrepreneurs, and start-ups can now apply for and manage space licences entirely online, eliminating the need for traditional paperwork or in-person approvals.
A Milestone in Smart Government Transformation
Announcing the launch, Eng. Salem Butti Al Qubaisi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency, described the platform as a major leap forward in the country’s efforts to integrate advanced digital solutions across government services.
“The launch of the UAE Space Agency’s digital platform marks a major milestone in our smart transformation journey,” Al Qubaisi said. “It places our services at the fingertips of investors and innovators, supporting the nation’s future aspirations while strengthening the UAE’s position as a global hub for space.”
He added that the platform reflects the UAE’s long-term vision of eliminating bureaucracy through innovation, emphasizing speed, efficiency, and sustainability.
“This initiative embodies the UAE’s commitment to adopting paperless, smart solutions that save time, enhance efficiency, and positively impact the national space economy,” Al Qubaisi explained. “It will serve as a global model for managing space activities, with the UAE among the first countries worldwide to fully digitise space licensing.”
Simplifying Space Licensing: A Four-Step Process
The platform introduces a streamlined four-step process for obtaining a space licence:
Register using UAE PASS.
Submit an application through the online form.
Application review by the UAE Space Agency, with requests for additional information if necessary.
Instant digital licence issuance, accompanied by an automated notification to the applicant.
This simplified workflow dramatically reduces administrative burdens and turnaround times for licensing. Applicants can track the status of their submissions in real time, ensuring transparency and efficiency throughout the process.
According to the agency, the platform is not just a procedural upgrade — it is a cornerstone of a broader digital ecosystem designed to attract private investment and stimulate innovation in the UAE’s rapidly growing space sector.
First Digital Licence Issued to Space42
During the platform’s testing phase, the first digital licence was awarded to Space42, a UAE-based space technology company. The firm praised the system’s smooth functionality, describing the end-to-end process as “user-friendly and highly efficient.”
In a statement, Space42 said the new system allowed it to complete its application in record time, enabling its team to focus on research, development, and innovation aligned with the UAE National Space Strategy 2030.
The successful test case demonstrates how the platform can empower private-sector players to engage more actively in the national space ecosystem, from satellite technology and data analytics to emerging areas such as orbital logistics and deep-space exploration.
